Data Provenance & Raw Data Ingestion
The foundation of IPL Visual Chronicles is built on open-source, ball-by-ball, and match-level cricket datasets. Raw match metadata is ingested from two authoritative repositories:
Kaggle Complete IPL Dataset (2008–2026)
Curated match summaries and ball-by-ball deliverables tracking team rosters, toss decisions, innings scores, dismissals, and official Player of the Match awards.

Mathematical Formulations & Tie Resolutions
1. Effective Win Percentage Formulation
To eliminate distortion from washouts or weather-abandoned fixtures, Win Percentage is calculated over decisive encounters:
Win % = (Total Wins / (Total Matches Played - No Results)) × 1002. Super Over & Eliminator Resolution
In official league tables, tied matches that proceed to a Super Over are awarded 2 points to the Eliminator winner. In our longitudinal matrix, the franchise that triumphs in the Super Over is credited with the match victory, ensuring head-to-head records reflect the true tactical winner.
3. Tactical Toss Bias (Defending vs Chasing)
Batting 1st Win % = (Wins Setting Total / Matches Batting 1st) × 100Batting 2nd Win % = (Wins Chasing Target / Matches Batting 2nd) × 100This formulation isolates pitch degradation, evening dew slickness, and captaincy decision impact across individual grounds.
Web Vitals & Zero Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) Architecture
Every visualization on IPL Visual Chronicles adheres to strict Core Web Vitals engineering rules:
- Containment Enclosures: All charts, tables, and SVG heatmaps are enclosed in CSS
contain: layout stylecontainers with explicit CSS minimum heights (e.g.min-height: 640pxfor the heatmap,min-height: 520pxfor team explorer). - Font Loading Stability: Inter and Outfit web typography are linked with
font-display: swapto eliminate layout reflows during typography asset swaps. - Static SSG Generation: Astro's static site generation pre-renders all 100+ pages into static HTML at build time, yielding sub-10ms server responses.
